The Harvey County Sheriff says he’s ending a popular drug take back program because of an investigation into the police department in the city of Halstead.
Last November the Kansas Bureau of Investigations (KBI) questioned several people at city hall.. And last month they searched the police department.
Now, the Harvey County Sheriff says the KBI was working out of his offices and conversations with them about their investigation led to his decision to stop accepting unused and expired drugs, over the counter and prescription, from the public.
“I said, ‘Well, we do it, too,’ and I showed them,” said Sheriff T Walton. “And that’s when we found out how to do this properly with all the custody chain and I didn’t want to get involved in where there was anything even questionable in what we were doing.”
