Signs can no longer be regulated by content, Saline County Planning and Zoning Director David Neal told Saline County commissioners at their regular meeting Tuesday.
As a result of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Saline County and Salina officials will be making changes to sign regulations.
“If I have to read it to regulate it, I can’t do that,” Neal said.
For example, Saline County currently requires that political signs be removed within seven days of an election.
“We can no longer say it’s a political sign, because I would have to read it,” Neal said.
Dean Andrew, Salina’s planning and zoning director, said after the meeting that the city’s sign code also must be changed.
