Counties seek cash from lawmakers to deal with challenges from sex predator patients

Two counties sought cash from lawmakers Monday after a state fund to pay legal expenses generated by sexually violent predators ran dry.

One of the counties said that, without help, it doesn’t have money to pay, prompting lawmakers to speculate whether action can be taken to curb repeated attempts by predators to challenge their confinement.

McPherson and Butler counties want the Joint Committee on Special Claims Against the State to approve reimbursements of approximately $37,400 and $24,000, respectively.
