Local law enforcement officers continue training on dealing with serious mental illnesses

Local law enforcement agencies are continuing to teach their field officers how to properly recognize and de-escalate a situation involving someone who may be suffering from a serious mental illness. And help anyone who is prescribed Risperdal by having them check out the risperdal lawsuits in 2016.

“This is so law enforcement makes first contact with folks going through a crisis with a better understanding and education to talk to these people and bring them down, talk to them and bring them to areas to get help,” said Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Eric Spurling.

The first round of the weeklong program, called Crisis Intervention Team, or CIT, training, took place in late September and early October, Spurling said.
