Hoverboards have been a staple of national news in the past month.
The self-balancing scooters were a popular Christmas gift. Fire risks from their lithium-ion batteries got them banned as luggage on America’s three largest airlines. And videos of people falling off them – the most famous being retired boxer Mike Tyson – have proven popular online.
So far, though, Hutchinson hasn’t had issues with them. To the best of hospital officials’ knowledge, nobody has been treated for hoverboard-related injuries at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, external affairs representative Richard Shank said Thursday.
Hutchinson Police Department hasn’t had any issues with people riding them recklessly, the department said. Kansas has no specific regulations for hoverboards, and their closest relatives, Segway scooters, are allowed.
