Smoking may soon be a thing of the past in Gardner parks.
During a Sept. 10 work session, Jeff Stewart, parks and recreation director, presented the council with a petition signed by 18 residents asking that smoking be banned in the city’s parks and recreation facilities.
Currently, only the Gardner Aquatic center prohibits smoking.
“This is a facility rule, and not enforced by ordinance,” Stewart wrote in a memo to the council.
