Anje Kearney took a vocal stance in May against using property tax revenue to finance the “bells and whistles” of a proposed project to revitalize downtown Topeka.
But Kearney says she still wants to see downtown thrive — so much so that she is volunteering to work with Downtown Topeka Inc. on a project to raise private money to finance those bells and whistles.
Kearney suggested DTI offer monthly “downtown markets” in which vendors would be able to sell their products from booths on downtown sidewalks if they paid a fee to help finance downtown revitalization.
