A divided Topeka City Council voted Tuesday evening to hire Jim Colson, the deputy city manager of Glendale, Ariz., as Topeka’s next city manager.
Council members voted 6-3 to approve a two-year contract with Colson calling for him to start work Aug. 27 and be paid a salary of $170,000 a year.
Council members Karen Hiller, Denise Everhart, Larry Wolgast, Bob Archer, Andrew Gray and Richard Harmon voted in favor of the contract.
