Prairie View USD 362 officials will take another look at how to improve facilities next month after 63 percent of those casting a ballot voted down a bond issue in a special election last week.
The primary bond issue of $12.8 million to build a new elementary school near the high school to replace Fontana Elementary and make other improvements to the district facilities failed by a large margin, 539 to 312.
Both the primary and secondary bond issues failed to get a majority of votes at any of the polling places in the May 15 election. The primary issue also would have allowed construction of a central supply building and replaced the bleachers and track at the high school.
The second bond issue for building new educational spaces at La Cygne and Parker elementary schools to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) standards for school and community storm shelter use for a cost of $900,000 failed by 517 to 326.
