The store, an anchor at The Hutchison Mall since the retail complex opened in 1985, will close “by early June,” said Julie J. Bull, director of investor relations with the national clothing retailer.
Any of the store’s 65 employees who wish to transfer to Dillard’s locations in Wichita “will be welcome,” Bull said.
She couldn’t comment, Bull said, on whether the company will offer employees not transferring any severance or other assistance.“It’s devastating news,” said Hutchinson / Reno County Chamber of Commerce President Monty Montgomery. “They sell a lot of upscale clothing. It’s one the few places in town that it’s available to men, women and children. Having Dillard’s is prestigious to your community. All the services they offer are going to be sorely missed. It will be hard to duplicate or replace.”
…
The Hutchinson closing, however, is reportedly currently the only one planned by the company.
