The Kansas Department of Transportation on Friday announced that Winfield has been awarded $2 million in economic development funding to help with the expansion of the local Newell Rubbermaid plant.
The money will be used for access improvements on U.S. 160 and to upgrade the surrounding rail system.
The money will come from the 10-year transportation bill, called T-WORKS, that was passed by the Kansas Legislature in 2010.
“We’re thrilled Rubbermaid will receive economic development funding, which will help stabilize our city workforce and allow it to grow,” Warren Porter, Winfield’s city manager, said in a press release…
