

Next Tuesday, Hutchinson’s city council will vote on a proposed development agreement that would include a $400,000 grant to lure a Kohl’s store. Last year, the city, with the Hutch News, did a retail survey and a Kohl’s store was at the top of many people’s list. When completed, the store is expected to employ 50 people.
“The city is dipping its toes into the retail incentive market,” City Manager John Deardoff said. “We haven’t done a lot of that. The first indication was the hotel project (Fairfield Inn) and now Kohl’s. The hotel was a needed improvement. Kohl’s will be a regional draw and will spill out into other retail establishments, so we thought it was worth it in this case.”
