Garden City’s former city/county animal shelter has been turned into a hazardous waste drop off site. There was a need to encourage local residents and businesses to dispose of this waste safely and responsibly, so the city took the opportunity to take an existing building and put it to better use. No new employees will need to be hired to run the facility, as employees from other departments have been reassigned to work on this project. While businesses will pay a small fee for using the service, residents pay nothing.
Residents of Finney County may dispose of materials for free. Hopefully, the availability of the new and free drop-off site will discourage people from improperly dumping any sort of hazardous waste in the wrong places.
